I was very skeptical in purchasing this item given the price as well as because I do not know anyone personally who had used one. Plus, I felt the urine test were too expensive and not very effective in determining my best ovulation days. However, I am happy to report it works as describe and has become a very effective tool for my husband and I. My menstrual cycle has a history of being inconsistent from month-to-month so I was looking for a gadget to help me better predict my ovulation days.
My advice is to use as instructed and along with some other ovulation detectors such as your personal ovulation calendar (example: the days you expect to ovulate based on your last menstrual cycle). I used a free on-line ovulation calculator tool as well as the LH Surge test in order to be as accurate as I could. The calculator was good in giving me a date range to test using the Maybe MOM scope, and I would test a couple days prior to the start day as well as continue testing a couple days after the date span in case I ovulated earlier or later than expected. I have had my scope for 2 months now and have been able to see my ferning patterns.
Do keep in mind that it helps to also use multiple saliva samples each morning during your anticipated ovulation days. Sometimes using the one sample was not sufficient enough for me because the sample may not have dried in the center of the scope or had bubbles. Therefore, I would clean lens and try another 3 to 4 times (different areas of the mouth) until I was able to get a good dried salvia sample that was most visible. If no fern-like patterns were seen after a few tries, then I concluded I was not ovulating that day. So ladies, try not to be discourage. However, if you feel the device is defected, then you may want to return it for another one to see if your results improve. Good Luck !!!
